ACT2endracism’s Let’s Talk Webinar
2021-05-20 @ 15:00 - 17:00
Please join us on May 20 from 3-5 p.m. EST as we have an in-depth conversation with our panelists to critically examine the perpetuation of the yellow peril narrative and the model minority myth in institutions today, and discuss how these perceptions have negatively impacted Asian Canadians.
Moderated by Teresa Woo-Paw, Founder of ACCT, the panelists include:
· The Honourable Bardish Chagger (Ministry of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth)
· Deputy Minister Daniel Quan-Watson (First Federal Deputy Minister of Asian descent)
· Chief Commissioner Marie-Claude Landry (Canadian Human Rights Commission)
· Dr. Gina Wong (Founder and Ambassador of Asian Gold Ribbon Campaign)
Addressing systemic racism requires us to reflect and go underneath the surface. We will be asking questions such as Why the yellow peril narrative still persists today? In what ways do our systems and structures uphold this form of racism?
Our goal is to go beyond what has been discussed previously so we can find ways to address anti-Asian sentiments.
This webinar is free, and you can register here.
