Dr. Nasreen Khatri: It’s Not Just in Your head: The Very Real Impact of Racism on Mental Health

In addition to medical, economic and social hardship, the pandemic has brought with it heightened racism against many communities. Join Dr. Nasreen Khatri for an interactive session about how and why these attitudes develop and how they impact mental health.
Dr. Nasreen Khatri is an award-winning registered clinical psychologist with almost 20 years of professional experience. She is a gerontologist, neuroscientist and educator who specializes in the assessment, treatment and research of mood and anxiety disorders in older adults. A graduate of McGill University, from 2001 – 2004 Dr. Khatri completed her clinical internship and CIHR-funded post-doctorate at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). From 2004 to 2012, she led the Mood and Related Disorders Clinic and founded the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) service at Baycrest.
In 2012, Dr. Khatri joined The Rotman Research Institute, a cognitive neuroscience institute fully affiliated with The University of Toronto, where she studies how depression impacts the aging brain and innovates non-drug treatments for depression and anxiety in older adults.
She is a Scientific Officer of the Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CABHI) at Baycrest.
Dr. Khatri has completed over 400 presentations and has been cited in the media, including CBC – The National, CTV News,The Globe and Mail, The Wall Street Journal (US and 25 other media outlets.
Dr. Khatri received the 2016 Government of Ontario Leading Women, Building Communities Award for her “remarkable insights into mental health and reducing the stigma of mental health issues” and “the enormous impact of her work” as a psychologist and gerontologist at Baycrest.
